What we offer
Postpartum Meals + In-Home Doula Support: Food and Care, Not One or the Other
A confinement nanny or confinement meals? You don't have to choose. Julia's Kitchen combines its confinement meals with six hours a day of in-home postpartum doula support in one daily package, booked for 6 to 30 service days, with travel within Richmond included.
When families get ready for the confinement month, many of them ask the same thing: should we hire a confinement nanny, or order confinement meals?
You don’t actually have to choose.
This long-term service from Julia’s Kitchen brings our confinement meals together with in-home postpartum doula support. We prepare the mother’s meals and arrange for someone to come to your home to help with the baby and with everyday life after the birth, so the mother gets a little more rest and the family is a little less stretched.
How a postpartum doula differs from a live-in confinement nanny (月嫂 or 陪月) is explained on our in-home doula support page, and the guide to postpartum help in Greater Vancouver compares all the options.
What does CAD $360 a day plus GST include?
Confinement meals and the included nourishing extras
The Julia’s Kitchen kitchen prepares the meals, along with soups, teas and the nourishing extras that come with the package. At the consultation we ask about the mother’s tastes, allergies and the foods she doesn’t eat, and agree the right meals for her. Family members spend less time shopping, cooking and getting meals ready.
Six hours of in-home doula support a day
The doula comes to your home to help care for the baby, support everyday life after the birth, and answer day-to-day questions about care. What the doula does, and how the work is shared with your family, is agreed at the consultation to suit your household, so the limited hours go where help is needed most.
Because the kitchen prepares the food, the doula’s time at your home can focus on the mother and the baby.

Then we confirm the service, the number of days and the full cost together. Your dates are confirmed once we receive a 50% deposit.
This service provides meals and non-medical postpartum support. If you have medical or special dietary needs, please tell us what your care team has advised.
Someone makes the mother’s meals, and someone helps with the baby.
